Not Out of Reach!

What does it mean to truly be within reach of grace? In Luke 18 and 19, we encounter two very different men in the ancient city of Jericho -- one sitting in the dirt by the roadside, the other perched high in a sycamore tree -- and yet both are searching for the same thing: to be seen, known, and valued. The blind beggar Bartimaeus cries out despite being told to be silent, and Zacchaeus, the wealthy but despised tax collector, climbs above the crowd just to catch a glimpse of Jesus passing by. What unites them is not their circumstances but their hunger. This message invites us to reconsider who we think is beyond the reach of transforming grace, and to recognize that the very dirt and smallness we try to escape might be exactly what opens us to something greater. The spiritual insight here is both humbling and liberating: God does not work because of us, but often in spite of us, and the people we are most tempted to overlook may be the very ones heaven is already moving toward.
